Since its inception in 1991, the NBMBAA® Leaders of Tomorrow® Program has mentored more than 8,000 talented youth aspiring to leadership roles in professional fields. The LOT® Program is a comprehensive programmatic approach for providing leadership development to high school students. The program is driven by mentoring across four developmental areas: Leadership, Financial Literacy, College Preparation and Career Preparation. The program offers participants resources, knowledge and opportunities in the way of mentoring relationships, scholarships, and internships.

LOT Chair - Ms. Carletta Hurt


Carletta S. Hurt is a passionate educator and a fierce youth advocate. As a former science teacher, she recognizes the value of having girls and women engaged in STEM. For nearly a decade, she was a school counselor at a math and science focused middle school in Washington, DC, where she worked closely with the computer science program and coordinated the Broadcast Media Program. Her Broadcast Media Program was a participating school in the PBS Student Reporting Lab sponsored in part by the National Science Foundation. As a Discovery Education Network (DEN) Star, Hurt participated in a “global community of education professionals that are passionate about transforming the learning experience with digital media”. 


Currently, Hurt is a school counselor for DC Public Schools where she serves on the Social-Emotional Learning Team and is a School Partnership Fellow.


She serves on the board of directors for Science, Engineering, Mathematics (SEM) Link, Women in Film and Video, and is the founder of IN THE LOOP Program of Success, a youth development company, which provides ongoing, engaging programs to empower, educate and elevate young people.


Carletta is working on her first novel, 20 Reasons Why I Love Girl Power (And You Should Too), set for release in 2019 and X Marks the Spot: Girls Voices from Around the World, a documentary about the power of being a girl.
